The series was originally envisioned by editor John Ordover as running for twelve books, comprising six duologies. Ultimately, the series was reduced to nine, with Dafydd ab Hugh's A Time to Create/A Time to Destroy being dropped (having originally been scheduled after the ...Love/...Hate duology), and Keith R.A. DeCandido's A Time for War/A Time for Peace duology compressed into a single volume to close out the storyline. [1] [2]
The titles of the series were derived from Ecclesiastes 3 in the Bible.
