Altair system

The Altair system was an inhabited star system in Federation space. This system was of strategic importance to the Federation.

The Altair system had been involved in long interplanetary wars in the early 2260s, and the Federation attempted to help stabilize this by supporting the inauguration of a new president on Altair VI in 2267. It was believed this support would impress upon the Klingon Empire the might and prestige of the Federation. Three starships, including the USS Enterprise, were to rendezvous here for this historic occasion. (TOS: "Amok Time")

According to the script for "Amok Time", the other two starships that arrived at Altair were the USS Endeavour and USS Essex.

In the early 2360's, the starship USS Hood entered the system on a mission to Altair III. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")

Captains Rixx and Jean-Luc Picard initially met at the Altairian Conference sometime prior to 2364. (TNG: "Conspiracy")

Planets of the Altair system exported Altair water and the champagne Altairian Grand Premier (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock; TNG: "Datalore").

It is unclear if the Altarian encephalitis, referenced in TNG: "Future Imperfect" originates from this system.
