The artificial gravity generator was a component of most starships in the mid-22nd century. The artificial gravity generator changed the environment of a starship from zero gravity to artificial gravity, using the vessel's gravity plating.

Usually, a ship's "sweet spot" was found approximately halfway between the artificial gravity generator and the bow plate. (ENT: "Broken Bow")
