Shane Johnson is the author of several Star Trek books, including Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, the Star Fleet Uniform Recognition Manual, and The Worlds of the Federation. Johnson got his start in the Star Trek universe by creating fanon blueprints and schematics before being hired by Pocket Books.
