USS Gandhiedit

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

The USS Gandhi was a Federation starship in service during the late 24th century.

In 2369, it was assigned to the Lagana sector on a terraforming mission. Thomas Riker was transferred to the Gandhi in that year following his rescue from Nervala IV. (TNG: "Second Chances")

Riker later began to express certain "political opinions" that supported the Maquis and their goals while serving aboard the Gandhi. He later deserted the ship to join them in 2371. (DS9: "Defiant")

[edit] Background

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the Gandhi was named for Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the respected Indian leader who pioneered the principles of non-violent resistance.

The Encyclopedia further elaborates that the Gandhi was an Ambassador-class starship, with the registry NCC-26632. To date this information has not been divulged on screen, however, it is also possible that it appeared on the biographical screen Odo presented to Dukat, unfortunately it was not clearly shown to confirm the Encyclopedia's conjecture.

The Gandhi was stated as being a Galaxy-class starship in John Vornholt's Double Helix novel Quarantine.
