A crossbow was a projectile weapon that consisted of a bow mounted on a stock that shot arrows. A mechanism in the stock held the bow in its fully-drawn position, and the projectile was shot by pressing a trigger.

Steel crossbows were used in battle by Humans as early as the 14th century. (TNG: "Booby Trap")

The Akaali Riaan threatened Captain Jonathan Archer and Trip Tucker with a small crossbow during their first encounter in 2151. A larger, wall-mounted crossbow was present in Garos' curio shop. (ENT: "Civilization")

Crossbows were among the weapons found at the weapon's display on the Ligonian Centerplace on the planet Ligon II in 2364. (TNG: "Code of Honor")

Lieutenant Worf kept a crossbow in his quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-D. In 2369, Captain Jean-Luc Picard used this crossbow to help take back his ship from mercenaries who were planning on stealing trilithium resin. (TNG: "Starship Mine")

The same year the Hunters, a species from the Gamma Quadrant, used energy crossbows when they hunted down a Tosk on Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Captive Pursuit")

Two similar weapons from the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Concerning Flight" was sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. One of them might be the small crossbow used by Riaan in the episode "Civilization". [1] [2]

The crossbow seen in "Starship Mine" was rented for five days of filming from Robin Full of Pony Express Sport Shop Inc., 16606 Schoenborn Street, Sepulveda, California 91343. The crossbow is an AT A.2.G.P. model and was rented for US$125.00.
