A-koo-chee-moya was a Native American saying used by Commander Chakotay at the beginning of his rituals. He would say it whenever he sought contact with his animal guide.

Every person has a different animal guide. Chakotay also once told Captain Kathryn Janeway "B'Elanna is the only person I know who tried to kill her animal guide". (VOY: "The Cloud")
