Aldebaran (also Alpha Tauri) is a binary star system located about 65.1 light years from Sol.

This system, location of the Aldebaran colony, is the home to the Aldebaran mud leech, the Aldebaran serpent, Aldebaran whiskey, and the Aldebaran shellmouth. (ENT: "Anomaly"; TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before", "Amok Time"; TNG: "Hide and Q", "Conspiracy", "Relics"; DS9: "Prophet Motive", "Explorers", "Distant Voices")

[edit] Background

Aldebaran was mentioned as a small note on a very large star chart graphic created for TNG: "Conspiracy". It was the image behind the chair in the room where Dexter Remmick was killed. It appears to be located within an outlined block, which may indicate that it was surrounded or was even a part of Federation territory at the time.

Aldebaran is a real system in the Taurus constellation. Its primary component is a red giant star (spectral class K5III) and another minor companion is a dim red dwarf (spectral class M2). Aldebaran means "he who follows" in Arabic, since the star seems to follow the Pleiades Cluster across Earth's sky.

[edit] Other Facts

Aldebaran was mentioned in the spoof of Star Trek Voyager starring captain Janeway and Other actors from the series, Frasier. In this it was mentioned that Alderberians were humanoids with four tounges, at which a joke is promptly made.
