Alexander 'Sandy' Courage (born 10 December 1919; age 88) is a Philadelphia-born composer who wrote several scores for Star Trek: The Original Series, among them the main title theme. According to Jerry Goldsmith's commentary for the Star Trek: The Motion Picture DVD, he was the person who recommended Courage to Gene Roddenberry, as Goldsmith had been asked to score "The Cage", but had to decline due to other commitments.
