Altair (or Alpha Aquila) is a star (spectral class A7IV) about 16.8 light years from Earth (98 trillion miles). A 2280s freighter could travel nineteen periods from Altair to reach Gamma Hydra sector, Section 10. It is the primary of the Altair system. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
A system wide war finally brought together the populations of Altair IV and Altair VI. (TOS: "Amok Time") The fourth planet is also the home of a prestigious hospital. (DS9: "Prophet Motive")
The Altair sandwich was named after the star. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")
