It isn't stated if "Anjoran" is a species, or a certain type of bio-mimetic gel. It is probably a specific way of producing it, as bio-mimetic gel is strictly policed by the Federation, who are the only ones capable to producing it. (DS9: "Distant Voices", "In the Pale Moonlight")
