Arcturus (or Alpha Bootis) is a red giant star and primary of the Arcturus system, located 36.7 light years from Sol.

According to the non-canon novel The Entropy Effect, Arcturus is a mostly neutral territory almost exactly equidistant between Federation, Romulan, and Klingon space.

In the novel The Lost Years, Leonard McCoy travels to a planet named Arcturus, outside the Federation in an unnamed star system. The planet is in a state of total anarchy, with individual property owners using shields around the perimeters of their lands for security.
