Branson is blown out into space (2379)

Lieutenant Branson was a Starfleet officer, assigned to the USS Enterprise-E in 2379. He was serving as the Enterprise's helm officer when the starship was ordered to Romulus for a diplomatic mission at the request of Praetor Shinzon. Branson plotted the course to Romulus and was at the helm when the ship greeted Shinzon's warbird, the Scimitar.

The meeting, however, was ultimately revealed to be a ruse set up by Shinzon to capture Captain Picard. When the Enterprise successfully retrieved Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data from the Scimitar, Branson piloted the ship through the Bassen Rift to rendezvous with Starfleet Task Force Omega.

In the battle which soon followed, Branson was still at the helm when a torpedo from the Scimitar breached the forward section of the bridge. The resultant explosive decompression blew him out into space, killing him before an emergency force field could be erected. (Star Trek Nemesis)

[edit] Background

Branson was played by actor Michael Owen and was named by screenwriter John Logan for his friend Donna Branson.

In the TNG-relaunch novel Q&A, in an alternate reality, Branson survived the battle with the Scimitar and continued to serve aboard the Enterprise into 2380.
