Cambridge is a city located just outside of Boston, Massachusetts on Earth.
The first conclusive advances on toroidal space-time distortion were made by Ralph Seron at Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2052. Spock was questioned on this fact during his memory test in 2285. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
The source of this appeared in the script for the movie, but because Spock's questions were appearing simultaneously on three different screens, this reference remained unseen to the viewers.
