Chaffee

The Chaffee (NX-74205/01) was a Federation shuttlepod assigned to the USS Defiant.
In late 2374, Benjamin Sisko, Miles O'Brien and Julian Bashir used the Chaffee to enter the atmosphere of a Class L planet to rescue Lisa Cusak. The use of the pod was preferred because it's power systems did not utilize either dilithium or antimatter, and were less likely to be disrupted by the exotic energy field surrounding the planet. The Chaffee was named for astronaut Roger B. Chaffee, who died, along with Gus Grissom and Edward Higgins White, aboard Apollo 1.
It was not revealed whether or not this craft survived the destruction of the Defiant at the Second Battle of Chin'toka in 2375. It could have been used by some of the crew to leave the ship.
In the non-canon Deep Space Nine series of novels, the shuttle Chaffee was mentioned as being assigned to the replacement Defiant. The Mission Gamma storyline has a description, in Cathedral, of the craft being labeled "NX-74205". Since that was the registry of the previous Defiant, it may suggest that the shuttle was the one from the previous ship.
