The Cochrane was a class 2 shuttle assigned to USS Voyager and was designated as "shuttlecraft 4." In 2372, the Cochrane was outfitted with transwarp drive and became the first Starfleet vessel to break the transwarp threshold. The technology was abandoned when it was learned that such a speed induces hyper-evolution. (VOY: "Threshold")
The shuttle was briefly lost in a interfold layer, a region between space and subspace in 2373. (VOY: "Real Life")
The shuttle was used in 2374 during an attempt to recover Voyager's warp core; but it was soon destroyed by the Caatati. (VOY: "Day of Honor")
