In planetary science, a crater is a bowl-shaped depression found on the surface of planetary bodies created by impacts from stellar debris. Craters can also be created by weapons fire, such as Klingon artillery shells. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")

The impact of a Druoda series 5 long-range tactical armor unit on a planetary surface can create a crater four hundred kilometers across. (VOY: "Warhead")
