Crooning, and the type of singers called crooners - was a music genre that mixed early jazz, music hall and belcanto singing, to produce a clear tone of voice. The term crooner was first meant to be derogatory but was later used to describe singers like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.
Vic Fontaine was considered a crooner.
