Gul Danar was a Cardassian officer, commander of the Galor-class warship Aldara.
In 2369, Danar was assigned to apprehend the Bajoran Kohn-Ma terrorist Tahna Los, who he pursued to Deep Space 9. Danar demanded that Commander Sisko hand over Tahna to him, though Sisko decided to grant Tahna asylum.
Sisko later requested Danar's help in apprehending the USS Yangtzee Kiang, which Tahna had hijacked and equipped with a bilitrium-based explosive device. Tahna hoped to destroy the Bajoran wormhole with it. (DS9: "Past Prologue")
[edit] Background
Danar was played by Star Trek veteran Vaughn Armstrong. It was his second appearance in Star Trek. Vaughn Armstrong went on to play another Cardassian, Seskal, in the seventh season episodes "When It Rains..." and "The Dogs of War". It is possible that the two characters are related.
Sisko must have encountered or heard of Danar before as he knew his name, even though Danar did not introduce himself.
The character also appears in the DS9 novel The Big Game, set in 2370 when he returned to DS9.
Danar had a card in the Star Trek CCG Second Edition pack which referred to him as an "irascible gul".
