Darmok is a mytho-historical hunter from Shantil III, who once faced a common enemy with Jalad on the island-continent of Tanagra. The event was incorporated into the language of the Tamarians, as a metaphor for a situation where communication and understanding was accomplished through shared danger. (TNG: "Darmok")
