David de Vries (born 16 January 1966; age 42) is a comic book writer and artist from New Zealand, sometimes also credited as David DeVries.

Growing up just outside of Wellington, New Zealand and in Adelaide, Australian, he got into comics in the late 1970s and early 1980s and found it financially difficult getting started. The job did not pay well and he stated "I was throwing cabbages off the back of trucks to get some money." [1] Fortunately, specialty comic shops were beginning to take off, creating opportunities. In 1983, he began writing Southern Squadron, an Australian superhero team, and in the early 1990s, he made the jump to the American comic book industry. In 1992, he wrote one issue of the DC Comics Star Trek title, issue #34, "The Tree of Life, The Branches of Heaven".
