Derran Tal

Derran Tal was a Varro female with whom Harry Kim became romanticially involved. This affair broke the rules of protocol, and when Janeway found out, she ordered Kim to break off the affair.

Meanwhile a Varro was found hiding on the USS Voyager who explained that many Varro felt imprisoned on the mother ship and wished to leave, and that a violent movement was forming to help those who wish to break away. The Varro ship and Voyager were infected with a synthetic virus that caused fractures in the ship's hull. Tal revealed that she developed the schematic for the virus, and that she was part of a dissent group that wished to dismantle the linkage that binds the segments of the Varro ship. Then the segments which are separate ships can stay or leave if they wished. When this was accomplished, Tal said good-bye to Kim and left him with pain, since the more time they spent together, the harder it was to part, due to a chemical reaction called olan'vora.
