A dielectric field is a type of energy field that can be used to protect a spacecraft from electrodynamic turbulence.
Drayan shuttles use dielectric fields that allow them passage to the surface of their crysata moon. The crew of the USS Voyager was able to create the same kind of field in their shuttlecraft with the warp coils. (VOY: "Innocence")
