The eastern continent was a region on the planet Rutia IV that was controlled by a single government.
Ansata separatists spent several generations trying to free themselves from the rule of the government of the eastern continent. They maintained a base approximately 300 kilometers from the capital city on the southern tip of the eastern continent. (TNG: "The High Ground")
