"Federation and Empire" was a science fiction story written by Albert Macklin for the December 1952 issue of Incredible Tales magazine. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")

As an in-joke, this work's title is suspiciously similar to that of the second book of Isaac Asimov's famous Foundation trilogy, Foundation and Empire.
