A Federation scout ship was a type of small, one-man scout ship of common design, utilized during the latter half of the 23rd century.
In 2269, Cyrano Jones stole a Federation scout ship from starbase Deep Space K-7, to escape from the Klingons. A D7 class Klingon battle cruiser commanded by Koloth destroyed the scout moments after the USS Enterprise rescued Jones. (TAS: "More Tribbles, More Troubles")
