Ferengi Attainment Ceremony

The Ferengi Attainment Ceremony is a ritual ceremony performed by young Ferengi males as the last step toward adulthood. Upon completion of the ceremony, and in accordance with the Ferengi Trade By-Laws, Ferengi males must enter into business by purchasing an apprenticeship from a suitable role model.

In 2371, Nog completed the ceremony and presented a gift of latinum to Commander Benjamin Sisko. Sisko did not understand the purpose of the gift until Nog revealed that he wanted to become the first Ferengi in Starfleet. Sisko was extremely skeptical of Nog's sincerity and only after much convincing did he agree to sponsor the youth's application to Starfleet Academy. (DS9: "Heart of Stone")
