Forum:Backgound Actors' talk

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

Hi there,

I was wondering: in most scenes of Star Trek there are backgound actors going about daily business and doing some talking among themselves. Now, here is the question for those of you with background knowledge.

What do these background actors usually talk about? Now I'm not asking for transcripts. But are the actors to talk about their character's work (to keep their talk in Trek content) or are they free to talk about anything they like?

I am by no means an expert in television production, but I doubt the background extras would really be talking in order to keep the main actors' dialog clear. SwordfishII 17:56, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Well I think in most cases the background actors merely pretend to talk on-set and their conversation is "filled-in" during post-production. Even if they did talk, however, they likely did so quietly enough so the main actors could be heard; if they didn't, though, then the main actors can re-do their dialogue in post-production in a process called "looping." --From Andoria with Love
The Sounds of the crowd or background actors are in fact mostly the voices of the Loop Group, a group of voice actors who speak their words in the post-production. – Tom 19:31, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
I can't believe I forgot about the Loop Group. Thanks for clarifying that, Tom. :) --From Andoria with Love 19:37, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
