Was doing some reading when i noticed something that brought a question to my mind. What i was reading was a new book about the star trek universe (i know, not canon)and noticed that the federation had expanded far more inwards, or towards the galactic core, the rimwards, out further into the galactic arm. if i read the book right, the boundry line rimward was only about 3 - 5 parsecs away from earth. my question is: is there anything, canon-wise preferably, as to the reason for this? anything in the federation's history? – Farfallen 13:13, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

As what I know, Earth is located near the outer rim. That is not canon, that is RW-POV. As canon concerns, the galactic barrier is the outer rim that a starship can travel to. But then, we are not told how far from Earth the barrier is.--Rom UlanHail 13:43, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
