Actor Frank Langella (born 1 January 1940; age 68) played Jaro Essa in the first three episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's second season: "The Homecoming", "The Circle", and "The Siege". Langella took the role because his children were great fans of the series. He was uncredited in all of his appearances as he did not want to seem to be doing it for the exposure or money.

Langella earned a Golden Globe nomination as Most Promising Newcomer (Male) for his supporting role in 1970's Diary of a Mad Housewife. He is perhaps best remembered, however, for his portrayal of Count Dracula in the 1979 film version of the story, a role which he had previously performed on the Broadway stage.

Other motion pictures he has appeared in include Masters of the Universe (1987, with Robert Duncan McNeill, Meg Foster, and Anthony De Longis), Dave (1993), Cutthroat Island (1995), and Lolita (1997). He also lent his voice to the film Small Soldiers, which also featured Kirsten Dunst, Robert Picardo, and Dick Miller.

In 1995, he performed the role of Pharaoh Mernephta in the TNT movie Moses, along with TNG actor Maurice Roëves.

His latest roles include William Paley in Good Night, and Good Luck. (which also co-starred Ray Wise, Glenn Morshower, Robert Knepper, and J.D. Cullum) and Perry White in the Bryan Singer directed film Superman Returns.

He recently starred in Kitchen Confidential and is to appear in the movie Starting Out in the Evening, which also features Joel West.
