Frequency scan detectors are part of the USS Enterprise-D's sensor systems.

In 2367, the frequency scan detectors were engaged in order to detect and imitate the subspace frequency emitted by a cosmic string so that the starship could break free form the influence of two-dimensional lifeforms. (TNG: "The Loss")
