Golana is a M-class planet settled by Bajoran colonists at the beginning of the 24th century. The Golana melon originates here.
Before the 4th century, Golana was inhabited by a now-extinct, technologically advanced civilization. A few relics of their technology remain on the surface, including an active time portal accidentally discovered in a cavern in late 2374. The portal sent Molly O'Brien 300 years into the past, when the planet was uninhabited. She was eventually recovered safely. (DS9: "Time's Orphan")
