Bio-research, more familiarly known as health science, is the study in life sciences dealing with the study and research of anatomical and physiological functions, and conditions, as well as the improvement of an individual's health.
Christine Chapel gave up a career in bio-research in order to sign aboard a starship, namely the USS Enterprise where she served as a nurse, in effort to locate her former fiancé, Roger Korby. (TOS: "What Are Little Girls Made Of?")
