The Intrepid was an Earth starship of the Intrepid type in service during the mid-22nd century, under the command of Captain Carlos Ramirez. The ship's motto was "In Mare In Cælo" ("In the Sea In Heaven").

In 2153, the Intrepid, along with two other starships, aided the returning Enterprise on its way back to Earth when it was attacked by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey. (ENT: "The Expanse")

In an alternate timeline where Earth was destroyed by the Xindi, Intrepid was one of the few Starfleet vessels to escape destruction. It, along with Enterprise and one other starship, escorted a convoy of the last 6,000 Humans to the Ceti Alpha system in 2155-56, and helped patrol the system afterwards. In 2165 Intrepid suffered heavy damage, including the loss of her port nacelle, in a Xindi attack just before Captain Malcolm Reed would have taken over command from Ramirez. (ENT: "Twilight")

The Intrepid was one of the vessels gathered at Earth awaiting the return of the Enterprise from the Delphic Expanse in 2154. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")

The ship's motto appeared on Captain Ramirez' shoulder patch. The patch design and motto pay homage to the patch/motto of the U.S. Navy's Essex-class carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11).
