Ion surfing is an exciting recreational activity often practiced in holosuites.

Jake Sisko and Nog often went ion surfing, although Nog had trouble avoiding the rip curls. In an alternate timeline, Jake was depressed after losing his father, so Nog offered to take him ion surfing. (DS9: "The Visitor")
