Iowa was a political subdivision of the United States of America on Earth's North American continent alongside the Mississippi river.
James T. Kirk, legendary captain of the USS Enterprise and USS Enterprise-A, was from Iowa. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)
In an alternate reality, James T. Kirk was raised in Iowa by his mother and stepfather following his birth aboard a medical shuttle of the USS Kelvin in 2233. Iowa was also where that reality's USS Enterprise was built. (Star Trek)
