James Louis Watkins is the actor who was alongside Michael Dorn and James Avery considered for the role of Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He was beaten out by Michael Dorn, but played Hagon in the first season episode "Code of Honor".

Watkins has guest starred in a number of television series, including Baretta (1975, episode The Five and a Half Pound Junkie, with Gerrit Graham and Rudolph Willrich), Police Story (1977, episode Trial Board), Who's the Boss? (1985, episode Tony's Father-in-Law), Dynasty (1985, episode The Aftermath, with Theodore Bikel, William O. Campbell, and Rod Loomis), Hill Street Blues (1987, episode Norman Conquest, with Marc Alaimo, Richard Herd, and David Selburg), and A Man Called Hawk (1989, episode Never My Love, starring Avery Brooks).

Watkins has also acted in films such as The Keegans (1976, with Adam Roarke), Killer in the Mirror (1986, with Len Cariou and Parley Baer), The Night Stalker (1987, starring Charles Napier), and Spellbinder (1988, with Anthony Crivello and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and written by Tracy Tormé).

His appearance in the television series A Man Called Hawk with Avery Brooks in 1989 is his last known on-screen role.
