W.M. Jefferies

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

(Redirected from Jefferies)

Captain W.M. Jefferies was a 22nd century member of Earth Starfleet, one of the officers listed on the dedication plaque of Enterprise (NX-01). He was listed in the group of names of representatives of the United Earth Space Probe Agency. (Star Trek: Enterprise set artwork)

Jefferies had served as an engineer on the NX program in the 2140s. Lieutenant Charles Tucker was among the officers on Jefferies' team. (ENT: "First Flight")

Captain Jefferies was a designer of the NX class starship and promoter of installing powerful weapons to the class. Captain Jonathan Archer once argued with him, saying he didn't want to be in command of a warship, but considering Archer's numerous confrontations with hostile species like the Klingons or the Xindi, Jefferies seems to have been right after all. (ENT: "Home")

[edit] Background

W.M. Jefferies was named for TOS production staff associate W. Matt Jefferies. This name, with its first initials, was seen on the Enterprise dedication plaque.

Jefferies might be related to the so called Jefferies tubes, which are frequently mentioned in the other Star Trek series. The tubes were also named for Matt Jefferies, who designed the original USS Enterprise.
