Jerry Greenwood (10 March 1938 – 25 January 2004; age 65) was a special effects technician who did uncredited work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. He previously worked at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), joining the company as a construction coordinator in 1975 and departing after two years as the company's supervisor in 1979.
Greenwood was born in Kingston, New York. He studied theater while attending four different colleges – Wayne State University and the Detroit Institute of Technology in Detroit, Michigan, and American University and George Washington University in Washington, DC. Following a brief acting career, he studied film at UCLA (the University of California, Los Angeles) and began working in special effects.
As an employee at the fledgling ILM, Greenwood worked in the miniature and optical effects unit on the first Star Wars film and worked on the television series Battlestar Galactica. He also did projects independent of ILM, including effects work for Steven Spielberg's acclaimed 1977 science fiction hit Close Encounters of the Third Kind. After leaving ILM in 1979, he continued working independently as a special effects technician on films such as Star Trek and Alien and television shows such as The A-Team (starring Dwight Schultz), Max Headroom (starring Matt Frewer), and Knight Rider.
Greenwood died of a heart attack in Topanga, California, in 2004. He is survived by his son, Kevin.
