John Rhys-Davies (born 5 May 1944; age 65) is a highly versatile Welsh actor who recently regained fame in his role of Gimli the Dwarf in the Lord of the Rings movies (co-starring Brad Dourif and Karl Urban). He is also well known as Sallah from the Indiana Jones trilogy, James "Paladin" Taggart in the games Wing Commander III and IV, and Professor Arturo in the TV series Sliders. Rhys-Davies' role in the Star Trek universe was that of a hologram of Leonardo da Vinci.

He also played the recurring role of King MacBeth of Scotland on Disney's animated series Gargoyles, also starring Diedrich Bader, Michael Bell, Clancy Brown, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Matt Frewer, Gerrit Graham, Clyde Kusatsu, Kate Mulgrew, Nichelle Nichols, Salli Elise Richardson, William Morgan Sheppard, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, David Warner, Frank Welker and Paul Winfield.

He also appeared in the 2004 film The Princess Diaries II: Royal Engagement (as the uncle of the character played by Chris Pine).

2006 he was one of the supporting actors in the biblical based film One Night with the King with ENT-Star Tommy "Tiny" Lister, Jr..
