Kinetic detonator

A kinetic detonator was a type of detonator used by the Cardassians in certain large explosives. The technology was considered antiquated by the 2370s. Nevertheless, the Cardassians used a kinetic detonator when they constructed the automated missile that would later be known as Dreadnought. When the missile was sent to attack the Maquis munitions depot on Alpha 441, the detonator failed to function properly; rather than exploding, the missile bounced off the atmosphere and drifted into orbit, where the Maquis managed to capture it.
