The Klondike was a river in the Alaska region of Earth.
In 1893, Samuel Clemens encouraged the young Jack London to fulfill his dream of visiting Alaska and cited the Klondike and aurora borealis as features of Alaska. (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II")
