The Kobheerians were a spacefaring humanoid species who were members of the United Federation of Planets. (DS9: "Duet")

In spite of being members of the Federation, the Kobheerians also appear to maintain a relationship with the Cardassians, as Kobheerian freighters were allowed to travel somewhat freely in Cardassian space in the late 2360s and early 2370s; however, not without the occasional search. (DS9: "Second Skin")

Some Kobheerians have a lighter shade of skin, and hair. (DS9: "Dramatis Personae") Kobheerians also share an unusual resemblance to the Dopterian species; the appearance is almost identical, however Kobheerians have two large, elongated flat nostrils in the place of a nose, whereas Dopterians have Ferengi-like noses.

As it has been established that the Dopterians and the Ferengi are related, it is highly likely that the Kobheerians share the same common ancestry, in much the same way Vulcan humanoid species are related. Exactly how these genes were distributed remains unknown although it is obvious that Kobheerians and Dopterians are closer to each other than they are to Ferengi, perhaps Dopterians being closer to Ferengi than Kobheerians.

Benjamin Sisko later disguised himself as a Kobheerian, and the USS Defiant as a Kobheerian freighter in order to pass into Cardassian space in 2371. (DS9: "Second Skin")

In 2376, at least one Kobheerian made it to the Delta Quadrant and witnessed a Tsunkatse match. (VOY: "Tsunkatse")
