Madge Sinclair (28 April 1938 – 20 December 1995; age 57) portrayed the captain of the USS Saratoga in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. She was the first female captain to be seen on Star Trek. She also played the part of Captain Silva La Forge in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Interface", the mother of LeVar Burton's Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge and wife of Ben Vereen's Edward M. La Forge.
Sinclair was born in Kingston, Jamaica. In the 1977 miniseries Roots, she played Bell Reynolds, wife of Burton's Kunta Kinte (albeit after John Amos had taken over the role) and grandmother of Vereen's Chicken George. She is also known for her role as Nurse Ernestine Shoop in the television series Trapper John, M.D. (1980-1986). Later, in 1994, she provided the voice of Sarabi in The Lion King, which also featured Whoopi Goldberg as Shenzi.
Madge Sinclair died from leukemia on December 20, 1995, at the age of 57.
