Maques was the leader of a Cairn delegation on the USS Enterprise-D in 2370 and the father of Hedril. Lwaxana Troi taught him verbal communication so that he could better interact with non-telepathic species as the Cairn used telepathic means as their forms of communication. She also tried to spark some romantic involvement between Maques and her daughter. He helped Lwaxana confront a painful memory from her past, one that was causing brain damage and killing her.
