Mattel Inc. is one of the world's largest toy manufacturers. Out of a majority of its products, the production of the Barbie doll gained Mattel popularity. Mattel also specializes in the creation of games. Mattel is also the parent company of Fisher-Price (current producers of View-Master viewers), Tyco (a radio-controlled vehicle specialist) and Radica (a handheld electronic game company best known for its' 20Q games).

In the late 1990s, Mattel received a short-lived license to produce Star Trek-related toys and games. Only three known products were produced with this license:

With the development of the film Star Trek, Mattel reacquired a license to produce Star Trek merchandise. Scale models will be released under the Hot Wheels brand, and a Star Trek Barbie set is also to be released. Games announced include Star Trek Scene It? and Star Trek Edition 20Q.
