Memory Alpha:Episode data project/sidebar information

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

The data in the sidebar templates for episode and film articles may be manually edited, but if not done correctly may be reverted by a bot. All of the bot-enforced data must be changed on one of the project sub-pages. If you want the changes to be immediately visible in the article, you may also change them there, or you can wait for the bot to update the pages based on the new data.

[edit] General Info

Series and Season should never be changed. Episode number is calculated by the bot based on Memory Alpha's specific rules:

  • TOS: ORDER BY nSeason, nNthProducedInSeries
  • All other series: ORDER BY nSeason, nNthReleasedInSeries
  • If episode is feature-length, an episode number is skipped for the split up versions in syndication.

[edit] Production Order

The bot enforces production data from the production number and order data sub-page. The order fields and next/previous article links are based on the order of the episode in that list. The production serial number is also enforced from that page.

[edit] Release Order

The bot enforces release data from the release data sub-page. The order fields and next/previous article links are based on the order of the episode in that list. The airdate or release date is also enforced from that page.

[edit] Image

The field sImage maybe be changed on the individual page. It will not be reverted by the bot. It is the name of the image only, without the "Image:" namespace specifier. This list contains articles that have no sidebar image. Please don't just find any image from an episode and add it to the template without thinking if the image is truly iconic for that episode.

[edit] Feature-length episode

This data is enforced by the bot based on the feature-length sub page. There should be no changes to this information until a new series is produced.

[edit] Credits

The credits may be changed in the idividual articles.

[edit] Arcs

The arc data is enforced by the bot. Any arc data that does not exist on the arcs sub-page will be removed the next time the bot goes through all the episodes.

[edit] Timeline

The timeline data format and order is currently being discussed.

Currently, the bot enforces in-universe timeline data from the timeline data sub-page. The order fields and next/previous article links are based on the order of the episode in that list. The fields wsDate, cslnStardates, and cslnYears are also enforced from that page.

90% of the timeline data is unreliable. The bot does nothing with this at this time.
