The Meridians are a humanoid species who were the descendants of an expedition that was stranded on the planet Meridian, located in the Gamma Quadrant, during the 14th century. They spend sixty years in a non-corporeal state as the planet shifts between dimensions. While in physical form the Meridians are humanoid in appearance, with distinguishing markings near their eyes.
The passage between dimensions is a celebrated event on Meridian and is marked with first meal and last meal. The time spent in the physical universe is used to experience physical sensation, get to know each other, and raise families. (DS9: "Meridian")
