Naming ceremony

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

The naming ceremony was a ritual observed on the planet Kataan shortly after the birth of a newborn baby.

The ceremony is similar to various baptism ceremonies found on Earth.

The parents decide on the name for a child, sometimes naming the baby after a dearly departed and announce it to gathered friends. The naming is followed by a party with a large buffet. (TNG: "The Inner Light")
