Nitrate is a salt of nitric acid. It is composed of one nitrogen and three oxygen atoms with the chemical formula NO3−.
Soil samples of Melona IV, taken after the destruction by the Crystalline entity, contained normal amounts of lanthanide and nitrates, a slightly elevated level of hydrocarbons and bitrious filaments in trace amounts. (TNG: "Silicon Avatar")
